A braking test carried out by TÜV Süd Automotive (report no. 76225118) again confirms the excellent braking properties of the ContiPremiumContact 2 summer tyres. The independent company tested the tyres produced by the Hanover-based Corporation along with those from six competitors, including renowned premium manufacturers, in the 205/55 R 16 H size category.

All of the products were purchased by TÜV from specialist tyre retailers. TÜV measured the braking distances on dry and wet roads. The measurements were compared at around 50 mph on wet roads and 62 mph on dry asphalt. Overall, the test vehicle fitted with ContiPremiumContact 2 braked better on dry and wet asphalt than all the other competitors. The difference between the Continental tyres and the average tyres from the test field was noticeable: Continental tyres braked 5.3% better on dry and around 7% better on wet roads. Between Continental and the worst performer, a Chinese import, the difference on wet roads was more than 20%, which equates to a braking distance of over ten metres.

TÜV Süd Automotive carried out the test using a Golf V 2.0 TDI with ABS activated. The test runs were monitored via GPS and a reference tyre was rated with 100%. The Continental products also meet the premium demands of the automotive industry at the highest level. In 2003, the Hanover-based Corporation became the market leader for passenger and light truck tires in the European OEM market and has gradually expanded to achieve its current market share of over 30%.
